PaPaYa

Received this email from a friend and would like to share it and benefit all my readers.

Papaya

Who doesnt know what is a papaya? I'm sure everyone knows.

Papaya was the only studied food found to halt breast cancer

Scientists studied 14 plant foods commonly consumed in Mexico to determine their ability to halt breast cancer cell growth. These included avocado, black sapote, fuava, mango, prickly pear cactus (nopal), pineapple, grapes, tomato, and papaya. They also evaluated beta-carotene, total plant phenolics, and gallic acid contents and antioxidant capacity. They found that only papaya had a significant effect on stopping breast cancer cell growth. (International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition, May)

Papaya is a store-house of cancer fighting lycopene

The intense orangey-pink color of papaya means it is chock full of cancer fighting carotenoids. Not only beta carotene, but lycopene is found in abundance. The construction of lycopene makes it highly reactive toward oxygen and free radicals.

Scientists at the University of Illinois think this anti-oxidant activity contributes to its effectiveness as a cancer fighting agent. Epidemiological studies have indicated an inverse relationship between lycopene intake and prostate cancer risk. They showed that oral lycopene is highly bioavailable, accumulates in prostate tissue, and is localized in the nucleus of prostate epithelial cells.

In addition to antioxidant activity, other experiments have indicated that lycopene induces cancer cell death, anti-metastatic activity, and the up-regulation of protective enzymes. Phase I and II studies have established the safety of lycopene supplementation. (Cancer Letter, October 8, 2008)

Prostate cancer was the subject of a study in Australia that looked at 130 prostate cancer patients and 274 hospitalized controls. The scientists found that men who consumed the most lycopene-rich fruits and vegetables such as papaya were 82% less likely to have prostate cancer. In this study, green tea also exerted a powerful anti-cancer effect. When lycopene-rich foods were consumed with green tea, the combination was even more effective, an outcome the researchers credited to their synergy. (Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2007)

Isothiocyanates found in papaya restore the cell cycle to eliminate cancer

Organo-sulfur compounds called isothiocyanates are found in papaya. In animal experiments, isothiocyanates protected against cancers of the breast, lung, colon pancreas, and prostate, as well as leukemia, and they have the potential to prevent cancer in humans. Isothiocyanates have shown themselves capable of inhibiting both the formation and development of cancer cells through multiple pathways and mechanisms. (International Journal of Oncology), October, 2008)

Researchers in Japan clarified the mechanisms of action in a type of isothiocyanate found in papaya known as BITC, that underlies the relationship between cell cycle regulation and appropriate cell death. When cancerouscells die on schedule, they are no longer a problem. The researchers established that BITC exerted cancer cell killing effects that were greater in the proliferating cells than in the quiescent cells. Cancer cells that are proliferating are much more dangerous than cancer cells that are in a state of dormancy. (Forum of Nutrition, 2009)

Enzymes from papaya digest proteins including those that protect tumors

The fruit and other parts of the papaya tree, also known as the paw paw tree, contain papain and chymopapain, powerful proteolytic enzymes that facilitate chemical reactions in the body. They promote digestion by helping to break down proteins from food into amino acids that can be recombined to produce protein useable by humans. Proteolytic enzymes protect the body from inflammation and help heal burns. They do a good job of digesting unwanted scar tissue both on the skin and under its surface.

Research has shown that the physical and mental health of people is highly dependent on their ability to produce proteins they can use effectively. However, as people age, they produce less of the enzymes needed to effectively digest proteins from food and free needed amino acids. They are left with excessive amounts of undigested protein which can lead to overgrowth of unwanted bacteria in the intestinal tract, and a lack of available amino acids.

Eating papaya after a meal promotes digestion, and helps prevent bloating, gas production, and indigestion. It is quite helpful after antibiotic use to replenish friendly intestinal bacteria that were the casualties in the war against the unwanted bacteria. When the intestinal tract is well populated with friendly bacteria, the immune system is strengthened, and can better protect against flu and cancer.

Being a proteolytic enzyme, papain is able to destroy intestinal parasites, which are composed mostly of protein. To rid the body of intestinal parasites, half a cup of papaya juice can be alternated each hour for twelve consecutive hours with the same amount of cucumber or green bean juice.

Papaya contains fibrin, another useful compound not readily found in the plant kingdom. Fibrin reduces the risk of blood clots and improves the quality of blood cells, optimizing the ability of blood to flow through the circulatory system. Fibrin is also important in preventing strokes. Proteolytic enzymes containing fibrin are a good idea for long plane rides to minimize the potential of blood clots in the legs. People who sit at a desk all day might want to use proteolytic enzymes too.

Proteolytic enzymes are able to digest and destroy the defense shields of viruses, tumors, allergens, yeasts, and various forms of fungus. Once the shield is destroyed, tumors and invading organisms are extremely vulnerable and easily taken care of by the immune system.

Undigested proteins can penetrate the gut and wind up in the bloodstream where they are treated by the immune system as invaders. If too many undigested proteins are floating around, the immune system becomes overburdened and unable to attend to the other tasks it was meant to do. Proteolytic enzymes can digest these rogue proteins, freeing up the immune system.

Let's ensure a slice of papaya every day in our diet. Papaya juice will be great too!

p.s I've also heard of evidence that papaya leave made into i teaspoon of bitter juice helps to raise platelets in haemorrhagic dengue. Have not tried it personally. Any comments on this? Could anyone share the scientific evidence references please?

Thaipusam parade, kids activities, housechores, chocolate puddings & more...

Since daddy is away outastation for golf with a group of friends frm Penang, mommy had to babysit the four of us alone today.

First she drove us out purposely to welcome the traffic jam in order to let us watch closely the Thaipusam parade & kavadi bearers (which is a sure No No if daddy is around because daddy hates crowded & jammed places). Then she sent us twins Daniel & Dennis to taekwando lessons & mei mei Jasmine to KinderBear music lesson at Susan cheh che's studio. Juliana didnt want to follow as she prefers to stay at home & sleep (emmm this girl really has her own character).

Back home, mommy vaccumed & washed her MPV & wiped the interior with antibacterial multi surface cleaner. After that she vaccum the carpets in the house & did all the laundry before picking us up for lunch.

We had lunch at this coffeeshop called YAT YAT SENG where one can find yummy Kai Si Hor Fun (stripped chicken kueh teow soup) which taste better than the commercialised Low Wong nga choy kai in town (where most tourists would go.)Susan cheh cheh was also there for thier famous Chicken rice that comes with free soup .

After lunch , mommy went round the neighbourhood to distribute the chocolate puddings that she made yesterday to our close friends.

Knock knock...daddy is home at last frm his golf! Yippeee it will be family time again tonight.
So what's cooking? Probably mommy's spaghetti our all time favourite..this time seafood spaghetti.
Then may be we will go for a cinema show (mommy won 3 tickets for Golden screen cinema show).
Having said all the above planned items, it will still be weather dependant.!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND everyone!

The sliced dried & grilled meat. Available in chicken & pork meat.

The packeted meat floss. Also avalilable in plastic containers

The packaging from the other shop named Seong Kee.

The meat & way of preparations are identical.

100 yen store sudah mali in town.

Happened to passed by Ipoh Parade today and saw this new shop called "100 yen" shop.
Obvious frm the name....the items are made in Japan and all selling at RM4.90 (must be equivalent to 100 yen lor).

What one can find there...almost anything from household : kitchen wear, gadgets, utensils, canned food, Japanese snacks, noodles, clothes, photo frame, etc.

My favourite are the bento boxes..must be influenced by my twin kaki Jacs' collection. I found the "Lilo & Stitch" lunch box but didnt buy as there were last 2 left. The sales girl asked to come back for more..got some more in their gudang. Today is their 2nd day open shop..so many things sudah laris liao!

Bought a few items oni..quite expensive actually if you add up the total. These are what i bought;

Timer (i think this is quite a fair buy as most shops selling close to RM10)

sushi mould (love shape, star shape & bear shape)

Hair ties..to play with my hair which I'm getting bored with.

Suddenly I'm in the mood to learn how to make simple sushi...anyone is willing to teach me ..what rice I need to buy..I am a real dummy in this. Havent made sushi in my life..oni knw how to buy & eat! So any sifu willing to teach me step by step?

Not all cheap stuff aint good lor!

Another product review here after the previous one on super broom 918.. (Again I 'm not receiving any commission or revenue for it hah!)

This time it's the TESCO antibacterial multi-surface cleaner.

Why I like this product:

1) First of all the fragrance is very pleasant (unlike most antiseptic agent like DETTOL which has very strong "Medicated" smell).
2) Easy to spray
3) Leaves surface clean and smells great without having to rinse.
4) More affordable than other anti-bacterial brand (price between RM6-7 depending on offer)...oops mistake just found out today(11.9.0) when I went to TESCO, that it's only RM3.90..even cheaper still.]
5) It supposedly can kill 99.99% germs(not very sure of this though!)

I use it to clean the surface of my cupboards, doors, sink top, fridge, TV , door knobs, etc.

Recently without maid I find my house is unavoidably messy with 4 kids around but it's cleaner than when my maid is around. I sweep everyday, I mop alternate days and sometimes everyday when I can't stand the stickyness and dust on the floor. I wipe windows and fan once a month. Change bedsheet and curtain once a month or when necessary. All this my maid didn't even do consistently when she was around as we didn't want to tax her too much thinking that she has to manage the household and the kids. Looks like mommy now is doing a better job than Kakak. Who says we can't live without a maid? Mommy have got us- twins 9 yrs and girls 4 and 3 yrs to help her out and also got daddy to iron clothes on weekends. Mommy we will stand by you!

This is our SIGNATURE kitchen set which mommy won 1st Prize from Johnson and Johnson "MY FAVOURITE BONDING MOMENTS" contest. It was worth RM10K. When the carpenter came he told it actually worth RM8K only. This was back in year 2004 when Juliana was born. Lucky baby brought luck for mommy.

So you can imagine after 4 yrs lots of dust has accumulated needs wiping. So the Antibacterial Multi surface cleaner is very handy to mommy.

Can you see the microwave on the left side? That also needs wiping from time to time inside and outside. This microwave also has sentimental value as mommy won it as the 9th to 2oth prize from Cuddles Puppywink Mom's choice contest in the year 2005 when she was pregnant with Jasmine..Another lucky baby who brought luck to mommy. The condition is still good . The best thing with this Samsung 28L microwave is it came with a radio function and can record voice.

The fridge beside this kitchen set is TOSHIBA 2Door 370L model won by mommy in the KAO 30th anniversary contest.

This fridge is 5 years old now. Still standing tall. Mommy use to keep all her breastsmilk in the side freezer compartment for all 4 of us. Emmmm another sentimental asset....that also needs thorough cleaning and wiping now.
